"Wendy enjoys the process of discovery and confirmation, that historic research brings. Carrying out research, following a hunch and realised through visual analysis,"
Wendy is an effective and trusted Heritage Consultant with a friendly approach conducive to developing productive relationships with stakeholders, clients and colleagues. Wendy studied Architectural History at Oxford, and Conservation of Historic Buildings at Bath and has been a member of the IHBC for 15 years.
With over ten years’ experience working in local authorities and national heritage organisations in advisory and management roles, Wendy has an excellent working knowledge of planning and conservation legislation, policy and guidance as well as experience of negotiating complex schemes, either on behalf of applicants or the local planning authority and have successfully represented both at Appeal.
Wendy worked for Bath and NE Somerset Council and Cheltenham Borough Council as a Senior Conservation Officer where she provided design and conservation advice for a large case load of planning and listed building applications. Before joining Bath and NE Somerset Council, Wendy was an Inspector of Historic Buildings and Areas with Historic England and a Heritage Adviser for the Canal & River Trust. Wendy has been instrumental in negotiating enabling development schemes with developers in Shepton Mallet, Swindon and Chard and worked with the Wiltshire Historic Buildings Trust to compulsorily purchase The Assizes Court in Devizes. Whilst working as a conservation officer Wendy has advised on several Town Centre regeneration and enhancement schemes involving the redevelopment of a former Brewery; the reuse of former industrial spaces for residential and educational use (Herman Miller Building, Bath Spa University); the award winning extension of the Wilson Art Gallery & Museum, Cheltenham and the conversion and extension of numerous listed buildings for alternate uses including the creation of a public/private partnership for the reuse of a redundant chapel as an arts space within a newly designated Arts Quarter.
